Oar length

Concept: The length of the oar is set at the inboard handle. By adjusting the length of the oar and keeping the gearing and span/spread fixed, the overlap/overshoot can be adjusted. Also see:
Gearing (force)
Span (sculling)
Spread (sweep rowing)
Overlap (sculling)
Overshoot (sweep rowing)
Sizes: Measured in centimeters.
Sweep oar: 367cm – 375cm
Scull oar: 280cm – 291cm
Effect:
+ The distance traveled by the blade in the water becomes longer.

Measure: Using a tape measure or adjustment scale on the oar. The length is measured from the center of the blade to the end of the handle.
