rowing mistakes

General – Wiper stroke

Mistake: Moving back and forth without any accents, like the windshield wipers of a car. The accents that are missing are:
1.  The contrast between the fast Initial away (trunk & arms) and the relatively slow second part (legs) of the Recovery.
2. The fierce leg kick after the Catch.
3. The accelerated Draw to compensate for the boat acceleration.
Also see: Rhythm.
Observe: Handle: look at the handle(s), it goes back and forth like a windshield wiper.
Cause: No accents in the stroke.
Conse-
quence:
A wiper stroke disrupts the rhythm. Higher stroke rate are not possible and cause a lot of speed loss. Crew rowing is difficult.
Remedy
erg/bin:
If there are two or more rowing machines, let te rower row aside of the instructor and follow the rhythm of the instructor. Ask the rower first to move the shoulders equally, followed by the shoulders and handle. Create a sense of rhythm in this way. Help the rower find the right rhythm/contrast (1) with the exercise Trunk throwing. Also get the sliding under control, see the mistake: Uncontrolled sliding. Then use the Exercise Practice pressure build-up to get a quick leg kick (2). Finally, learn to keep pressure during the draw (also see: Pressure loss at the draw). and compensate for the boat acceleration (3). For this, set the display of the ergometer to force curve and set the resistance as low as possible (see: Rowing machine). Let the force curve run high for as long as possible. Listen to the sound of the flywheel: make the tone as high as possible at the finish. Use the 5-step learning process (Intervene).
Remedy
boat:
Help the rower find the right rhythm (1) with the exercise Trunk throwing. Use a Speed tube or a Drag strap to learn to compensate for the boat acceleration (3) and increase handlespeed during the draw (also see: Pressure loss at the draw).
Feed-
back:
Feel the abs contracting in the initial away. Listen to the sound of the stroke.
Cox
chair:
Listen to the sound of the stroke, feel the boat rhythm
